CAAC was a relatively early customer for the Il-62, receiving five in the early 1970s for use on the airline’s long-haul routes, these being the first turbofan-powered passenger aircraft in Chinese commercial service. B-2024 was delivered in December 1971 and was withdrawn from use in May 1987, later being transported to Datangshan for display.
