China received a number of An-24s from the Soviet Union before manufacturing the type under license as the Y-7. At least one of these early aircraft was modified for bomber pilot/navigator training, with an additional fairing on the starboard side, resembling the nose of the Harbin H-5 (Il-28) bomber then in service.
