Although huge numbers of MiG-17s and Shenyang J-5s (the Chinese-produced version) are on display at the China Aviation Museum, this particular aircraft is somewhat more interesting than the rest. It has been modified to have what appears to be a large search or fire-control radar on the nose, in place of the smaller unit fitted to the standard MiG-17PF/J-5A variant, although its exact purpose is unknown.
