Kununurra is at the heart of the huge Kimberley region of Australia, in the north of Western
Australia very near the Northern Territory border. The region is known especially for its rich
mineral deposits, particularly diamonds, although it's so large and remote that much is still
pretty much undiscovered. Needless to say air transport is of major importance in the area.
As well as having one of the most important airports in the region, the large local lakes of
Lake Kununurra and Lake Argyle are also usually home to one or more floatplanes, used for
flightseeing operations in the area.
