The regular visits of US warships of the Pacific fleet to Fremantle in Western Australia allowed the general public a rare opportunity to take a look at these otherwise inaccessible areas. Although the visits are still continuing, the status of the public access is unclear in these more security-conscious times. Taken long before 9/11 changed everything, this shot of the USS Midway looking aft shows some of the aircraft of CVW-5 crowded onto the flightdeck. Visible here are at least 30 aircraft, comprising A-6s, EA-6s, KA-6s, E-2s and F/A-18s.
